How to Be Safe From Panic Attacks

by Dayne Stevens on November 10, 2010

Panic attacks are of course something negative. This could affect people in terrible ways. The personal lives of sufferers are highly affected. Some get fired from work while some get divorced from their wives or husbands. Because of these attacks, their emotional and psychological well being of the sufferers are affected. They also begin to have problems dealing with their friends or building strong personal relationships. It is even more difficult to deal with these attacks once it worsens. The best way to treat this condition is for you to start working on it as soon as the earliest symptoms arise.

There are numerous panic disorder symptoms of these types of attacks. A few of those are feeling of choking, chest discomfort, de-realization and depersonalization, nausea, sweating, muscle tension, fear of dying, losing control and trying to escape. There are a lot more but these are the most common.

The feeling of choking and other sensations related to breathing are due to the occurrence of shortness of breath during a panic attack. This is the normal reaction when a person senses fear. The body reacts once the person feels that she is going to be in danger and in reaction, the body releases adrenaline. This rush in adrenaline supposedly helps the body deal with the impending danger to protect itself from it.

There will also be a fight or flight response wherein the person would feel the need to escape. This happens in real life or death situations. However, in panic attacks, this happens in a completely normal situation. You could have a panic attack while waiting in line for a movie or doing something else that is completely random. When this sets in, you will have difficulty staying in control.

Instead of the mind thinking for you, the body will start just feeling. The brain would not be able to function properly, causing you to have a mindless reaction to things. This becomes dangerous when you are in the middle of driving. Because you would begin to lose control, it would help to try to calm yourself first before choosing which action to take. It will be a lot of help to convince yourself of reality. Make it known to yourself that what you are going through is just a random attack and nothing else.

This will be incredibly hard but with practice, you will be able to do it, especially since most panic attacks last for only 10 minutes. You have to keep in mind that most of these attacks are random so you have to make yourself ready anytime. You should always be in alert mode. This will only continue for a couple of months. Once you learn how to deal with the attacks, you will be able to avoid them entirely. You just have to work hard on the first few months; after all that hard work, you will begin to live a normal life once again. It is possible to achieve this only if you get help from the right people.
