Practicing Meditation as an Effective Anxiety Cure

by Dayne Stevens on October 28, 2010

Feelings of anxiety can come in various forms and intensities. It could be a temporary feeling given a particular situation, like for example an unexpected phone call, and then magically go away when a sense of security and reassurance sets in. But when it comes to a point of worrying too much about the uncertainties of the future, anxiety could turn into a menacing beast, rearing its horn to your fragile psyche to make your life miserable.

Worrying too much about the future is about as rational as believing in trolls and fairies.

You cannot be certain about your dark future no matter what kind of situation you are in right now. You can act right away by seeking the most suitable anxiety treatment for you. Medications and prescription drugs could be helpful but they bring only temporary relief. If you are already suffering from chronic anxiety problems, natural methods such as meditation could be the best way to go if you want a real and effective anxiety cure.

Meditation is an age-old practice of purging the mind of all the negative thoughts and feelings through relaxation, usually by doing deep and regular breathing exercises. This can really help erase your feelings of stress and anxiety by putting yourself in a position of calmness in a quiet, relaxing environment which will make your mind clear and free from everyday thoughts and concerns.

One good thing about meditation is that you can do this through self-teaching.

You may want to consult a self-help book about meditation to learn about various techniques in detail, but simple and self-explanatory exercises should be enough for you to get that anxiety cure. Just remember, this should be done regularly each day for you to achieve results.

Here is a simple meditation technique that could work for you:

Put aside 30 minutes of your time each day for meditation. Find a comfortable spot where you can be alone and undisturbed for the duration of your meditation. Find the right time for you when you can be most relaxed. Play some soft and soothing music if you want; better if you are a hearing distance away from the sounds of nature like falling waters, bristling leaves or chirping birds. Sit down or lay on your back with your head comfortably rested. Close your eyes and make deep breathings as much as your lungs can take at regular intervals. Make sure your spine is straight and inhale and exhale at about the same duration. You could be quirky at first but in time, this exercise would come naturally.

Practice various breathing exercises as you progress with your meditation. Breathing exercises is vital because it facilitates better oxygen intake that will increase oxygen supply to our body and stimulate our vital organs especially our brain. If you are suffering from anxiety disorders and even depression, daily meditation, together with the care and support family and friends, could be the definitive anxiety cure you are looking for. Don’t worry so much – you will get better.
